Another summer, another great LAS exhibition

A huge thank you to all our wonderful Members who were able to join us for yet another immensely successful Summer Exhibition.

It was opened by Fiona Morrell, CEO of Ludlow Assembly Rooms who gave a very interesting take on how art can open our eyes to understanding and sympathising with other people’s viewpoints.

This summer we kept up our usual high standard with overall sales of 25%, a figure rarely achieved in many other exhibition venues. Three-dimensional pieces did particularly well, and paintings in the small category were also good sellers.

Interestingly, almost all of the exhibits received some votes in the public favourite choice – so there really is something for everyone.

What goes unsung is the mammoth task tackled by the committee to organise each exhibition and I’m sure you would all join in to express sincere appreciation for all the hours of work and considerable stress involved.

Thanks also as always for our sponsors for their awards, and those members and partners who pitch in to help with the erection and dismantling of the screens – no easy task as they are very heavy.

And the award goes to…

Fiona’s choice for the Opening Speaker’s Award was Sandra Winterbottom’s ‘Outpouring of Colour’. Thank you so much Fiona.

Sandra Winterbottom also scooped the Award from our Sponsor, Vine and Juniper. Before you get too jealous, we should point out that it was a well deserved, amazing 3D entry called ‘Rivet’ and Sandra is currently in hospital after a nasty accident. We all wish her well for a swift recovery. Rivet now has pride of place in a display cabinet at Vine and Juniper – pop in and have a look.

Val Littlehales’ work, ‘Bluebells’ has won the Ludlow Brewery Award.

John Knight’s ‘Downton Vista’ won the Willow Picture Framing Award.

Sandra Lane’s ‘Snailbeach’ won The Pale Kitchen and Arts Award.

Glyn Randle’s ‘Ludlow Broad Street and St. Laurence’s’ won the Castle Book Shop Award.

And finally, the public vote this year was close –

Runner up: Joy Orr with Misty Garden

Winner: Carl Niblett with A939 Sunset Grantown-on-Spey Scotland

Despite all the hard work, we have great fun together as a committee and are all very much looking forward to the Spring Exhibition. See you there.
