Art reflects our lives and my life is outdoors. Whether it’s the wide open spaces of the Shropshire Hills, a tramp along Offa’s Dyke, a warm afternoon’s sketching in the dunes on Swansea beach or exploring the coastal vistas of the Gower, I’m in a happy space. I love to experiment with techniques and media, so my work varies from broad representations of the panoramas around me to detailed vignettes of anything that catches my eye as I wander. Changing seasons and colours excite and inspire my painting and I can often spend longer thinking about how to capture a view than executing the final piece.
Although largely self taught, I recently completed a Foundation Painting Course with the Open College of Arts and was lucky to have Diana Ali (BBC Big Painting Challenge) as my tutor, encouraging me to be bold and helping to grow my skills and confidence.
